1) Very good of its kind: eminently good
2) extraordinary; superior
3) Used to indicate approval
God has been opening so things up to me about identity and in a world where identity is disappearing there is a greater need to know who we are. So often we think excellence is a gained by how good we can be or make something look. A process of achieving. But excellence isn't something we make happen, excellence is something we are!
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
You see God created us in Christ Jesus unto good works. We don't become good or excellent by our good works but rather our good works are a product of the good work He created. Therefore our identity is excellent. We didn't become excellent through our works, we are excellent and once we are aware of that then naturally excellence flows from that place of identity.
The first definition says: Very good of its kind: eminently good.
-You are already excellent! Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
The second definition said: extraordinary; superior
-God gave us dominion at creation! Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. See also Deut 14:2 and 1 Peter 2:9
The third definition said: Used to indicate approval
-You are already approved! Eph 1;6 says we are accepted in the beloved. Psalm 149:4 says the Lord takes pleasure in His people.
Appearance by itself is not excellence. Excellence is a product of what is already working on the inside. Excellence is a by product of these three things:
LOVE- we can't be excellent if we're no loving eachother
HONOR- we can't be excellent if we're not honoring the people God placed around us and the gift he placed in them.
HUMILITY- we can't be excellent when "what I want and what I get" becomes more important than who I'm with. People be more important than things and "self" has to get put on the proverbial shelf.
Micah 6:8 sums these three up:
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
A synonym for just is honorable.
God requires this of us and to walk in the fullness of our identity we must acknowledge that He already created us unto these good works through Christ Jesus.
Eph 3:16-19 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Filled with the fullness
